In December 2019 we were fortunate to receive Valentina, a young, 19 years old Argentinian. She planned to tour Europe and could not resist the call from Lebanon. So she came to spend 2 weeks here and asked us to prepare a balanced two-week stay for her, where she could discover Lebanese nature, history, culture, gastronomy and nightlife and at the same time have enough time to relax. Since she was coming alone, I decided to take care of some of the tours around Lebanon.
Intensive tours alternated with days of relaxation, and we were flexible enough to avoid visits on days of heavy rain, which are common at this time of the year. One of our little marathons mixed various faces from Lebanon. We started with religious tourism, going up to the virgin of Harissa and admiring the views.
The adventure then continued towards Jeita Grottos. Valentina was fascinated by the "most beautiful stalactite caves in the world". The path between stalactites and stalagmites led us into a fantasy world in which we imagined giants, giant mushrooms, fairy tale villages and many other things
Then we went on to the sleepy coastal town of Batroun. Since hunger was already scratching our stomachs, we tried the specialty of the city: seafood sandwich ... and that directly at the sea. Delicious.
The stories about the Phoenicians, their culture and deeds accompanied us while we admired the power of the waves and the light sparks between clouds and sun on this windy day.
Another day full of culture and history awaited us when we visited the ruins of Byblos. Valentina devoured the stories about the many civilizations that populated this country. She never de-concentrated ... unless she had to upload an Instagram photo!
Although it was drizzling in part, we were able to admire the castle and the ruins. Nature added her personal touch.
Rain, clouds, sunset and the ruins of Byblos ..... an incomparable cocktail of colors and sensations.
Of course, we dedicated a day to our beautiful capital Beirut. And when we asked Valentina at the end of her stay what she particularly liked in Lebanon, she mentioned, among other things: the beautiful blue mosque of Beirut.
And obviously the discovery of Beirut is not complete without experiencing the infamous nightlife. After all, we are known for our crazy parties and our addiction to dance. So we went to discover "Ahm"!
Another excursion took us north, to Anfeh. There Valentina discovered the beautiful white houses with the blue shutters, the crystal clear sea and the windmills, which were formerly used for the production of salt.
At the end of the jetty you should normally jump into the water. But although the clear water was very tempting, nobody could brave the cold. Valentina, you have to come back in summer to enjoy these now deserted beaches.
Saida awaited us in the south of the country with a completely different experience. There is always something going on not only in summer, as the "souks" are well attended all year round. Not quite so the fortress island, especially when it rains ....
And since she is very curious, she naturally could not resist a traditional hammam visit.
How was this massage ...????
Is there a better way to discover a country than to spend Sylvester there? A night where everyone, the whole country, without exception, celebrates. It was great. We spent the whole evening dancing, music 'good cocktails and nice people on the "Gray Scale". Nothing could stop us!
And although the country is full of traces of ancient civilizations, like the Palace of Beit el Dine, which Valentina also discovered ...
... Lebanon also has many natural wonders to offer that Valentina couldn't miss. One of the most important is the Balaa Gorge. After a short hike we were able to admire this natural spectacle. Breathtaking, even if the waterfall in December is nowhere near its normal size !!!
And what better way to end an excursion than with a good traditional meal?
This ends Valentina's stay, who left us with great regret, but promised to return preferably in summer to see the second face of this country that has enchanted her so much. And next time, she will bring her father, who got photos of everything we ate. He can't envy us all his life!
